E-numbers are food additives such as colorants, preservatives, sweeteners, that are approved for use in foods, according to European legislation. E-numbers can be both artificial or natural. Nutrients, such as vitamin C also have an E-number (E300). Their bad reputation is related to consumer distrust in the food industry.
